Membership
As a fraternal society, members become part of a supportive community with privileges and obligations. Every member has a unique background, skillset and interests which are fully respected and encouraged.
You'll have the opportunity to engage in group discussions, learn new skills, join in social events and get guidance with secure hardware and software.
Who can join?
Membership is open to Guernsey residents exclusively but a rigorous application process is first required. Having a technical background is not necessary to join as those in the club will come from all backgrounds and walks of life. What unites members is the shared desire for individual privacy and rights at a time of consolidating internet censorship and control combined with elevated risks around cyber attacks.
Is there a fee?
At present, members aren't expected to pay dues to support the activities of the organisation.
How do I apply?
If you want to get involved in our activities then there is a brief application process to complete followed by a two week induction.
The application involves a short interview in which we ask some questions to get to know each other and find out why you're interested in joining. It also gives you the chance to ask questions about the club or what membership entails which might not be answered here.
If you're successful during the interview and are accepted, you will get to meet with others in the club and learn more about our activities over the span of two weeks. Following this, we will formally invite you to join as a member.
How can I pass the interview?
The interview is less of a test which can be passed or failed and more of a values assessment. We're interested in understanding why you want to join: why you care about digital privacy, why you don't support surveillance architecture or consolidating internet censorship and why you want protection from cyber threats.
There is no right or wrong answer and responses will vary from person to person. Before interviewing, you should think about the specific reasons these things are important to you personally or to the people around you.
